She received a Law degree and majored in Constitutional Law at Universidad Nacional de Colombia. She has a master’s degree in Constitutional Law from Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo in Madrid (Spain); and in Human Rights from Universidad Externado de Colombia, in partnership with Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.

She has outstanding work experience in non-governmental organizations, judicial administration bodies, and international organizations.

She supported monitoring activities related to human rights and international humanitarian law at the Colombian Commission of Jurists. At the so-called Corporación Humanas, she worked on the construction of a strategy for the prosecution of sexual violence that took place during the armed conflict. At the International Justice Mission she designed strategies to strengthen access to justice for women and children who are under threat of forms of violence.

She joined the Attorney General’s Office in the position of specialized prosecutor of the National Analysis and Context Unit. Then, she worked at the Subdirectorate of Public Policy and was part of the team in charge of drafting the ‘Sexual Violence Investigation Protocol’. She also served as Deputy Director of Criminal Policy and Articulation. She later joined the Constitutional Court and participated in monitoring the unconstitutional status quo of the Penitentiary and Prison System.

She was professor of undergraduate and graduate programs in the areas of human rights, constitutional law and international humanitarian law at Universidad del Rosario, Universidad de Magdalena and Universidad Santo Tomás.
