She received a law degree from Universidad Santo Tomás de Aquino of Bogotá. She majored in criminal law and criminology at Universidad Externado de Colombia, and in procedural law at Universidad Libre.
In 1987, she joined the Judicial Branch as clerk for Superior Tribunals of Bogotá. Later, she served as Examining Magistrate and municipal criminal judge.
She joined the Attorney General’s Office in 1992 and worked as sectional prosecutor at the so-called Unidad de Previas y Permanente. She later served as head of the Auto Theft Unit and prosecutor of the Public Safety Unit until November 2001.
After practicing law independently, she returned to the Prosecutor’s Office in February 2020 as prosecutor for the Center of Integral Assistance to Victims of Sexual Violence (Centro de Atención Integral a Víctimas de Agresión Sexual -Caivas) in Zipaquirá (Cundinamarca).
