He received a law degree from Universidad de Cauca and he majored in criminal procedural law. He also received a master’s degree in criminal law.

With more than 20 years of professional experience, he worked as lawyer, university professor in the areas of general criminal law, special criminal law and criminal procedure.

He joined the Attorney General’s Office, through a selection process in 2010, in the position of prosecutor for the Immediate Reaction Unit (Unidad de Reacción Inmediata  URI). He has been an advisor at the Headquarters and prosecutor for highly complex cases in Medellín, Cali and Bogotá. Likewise, he was commissioned prosecutor for the implementation of the Accusatory Criminal System on issues related to the strategic development of criminal cases, legal reasoning, alternatives to trial and basic and advanced oral trial techniques.

Since 2017, he served as an international consultant in criminal law for the Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training (OPDAT) to provide cooperation to the Attorney General’s Office to train Colombians prosecutors in the investigation and prosecution of organizations involved in the transnational organized crime, strengthening rural justice, and developing training, technical discussions, publications, and case mentoring.

The United States Embassy in Colombia awarded him with a certificate of appreciation “for his indefatigable and dedicated effort in the creation, coordination and successful implementation of a counter-narcotics cooperation program.”
