He has a PhD in Latin American Studies from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, a master’s and bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies from the University of Bergen in Norway and extensive experience in leading doctoral research in education and society, also implementing strategies and analysis applicable to educational and peace processes.

His professional career includes more than 20 years of experience as professor and researcher in Norwegian institutions, seven of them as associate professor in political, educational, and cultural studies of Latin America, in universities such as Universitetet i Sørøst-Norge (previously Høgskolen i Telemark) and Høgskulen på Vestlandet (previously Høgskulen Stord/Haugesund).

He was professor at Universidad de La Salle in Bogotá, of the Doctorate program in Education and Society. Moreover, he was professor and tutor of doctorate programs in education at Universidad de San Buenaventura (headquarters in Cali) and at the Political Science Faculty of Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Likewise, he was professor in the master’s degree in procedural law at the Political Sciences and International Relations Faculty of Universidad Javeriana, in the specialization in Law of Universidad Sergio Arboleda, in Barranquilla and Santa Marta, and in different international universities.

He was also coordinator of the line of research in Education, Language and Communication for the doctoral program in education and society of Universidad de La Salle (2012-2019), director of the Education and Society Research Group, Colciencias A1 ranking (2013-2019) and director of Centro de Investigación en Estudios Sociales, Políticos y Educativos – CIESPE (Center for Research in Social, Political and Educational Studies) (2014-2015).
