The victims were having breakfast in a commercial establishment when they were attacked with firearms.

In a preliminary agreement signed with the Attorney General’s Office, Leonardo Yaruro Niño, alias Nene, a member of the organization known as ‘La R’, accepted his responsibility for the murder of three peace signatories on September 6, 2019, in Cúcuta (Norte de Santander).

Therefore, a judge sentenced him to 21 years and 6 months in prison for the crimes of aggravated homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated criminal conspiracy to commit a crime, and aggravated manufacturing, trafficking, or possession of firearms, accessories, parts, or ammunition.

The evidence obtained by a prosecutor from the Special Investigation Unit (Unidad Especial de Investigación- UEI) indicates that alias Nene entered the place where the victims were having breakfast and shot them several times. Then, he put on a helmet, boarded a motorcycle, and fled the scene.

The peace signatories, identified as Milton Urrutia Mora, José Milton Peña Pineda, and Arsenio Maldonado Gamboa were fully accredited by the Office of the High Commissioner for Peace.

Leonardo Yaruro Niño was arrested in Venezuela after an Interpol blue notice was issued against him. In April 2023, he was extradited to Colombia and prosecuted. He remains in custody since then.
