The Attorney General’s Office charged José Manuel Vera Sulbarán, alias Satanás, leader of the so-called Tren de Aragua, with the crime of threats against human rights defenders and public servants.

The facts took place on January 2 when the defendant, apparently, threatened three members of the Instituto Nacional y Penitenciario de Colombia- Inpec (Penitentiary Center in Colombia), including the head of the security forces and two guards of the Palogordo prison, located in Girón (Santander).

According to the threat, alias Satanás allegedly paid 30 million COP to the person who established the places of residence of the officers and killed them.

Vera Sulbarán was arrested on November 1, 2023 in Ecuador, within the framework of an investigation related to the crimes of extortion and homicide, among others.

Currently, he is deprived of liberty in a prison in Valledupar, Cesar.
