- In the last month, 5 criminal structures received a hard blow as 43 of their alleged members were arrested and brought before justice.

In compliance with the institutional policy, “En la Calle y en los territorios” (near people and territories), the Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado; the Deputy Attorney, Martha Mancera, the Delegate Director on Public Safety, Luisa Obando; and his executive team traveled to Medellín (Antioquia) to monitor the progress of the investigative strategies implemented in the fight against crime and criminality, and to strengthen public safety.
In the main city of Antioquia, the Attorney General made important announcements about the dismantling of criminal structures, the impact on their illicit finances, and the clarification of femicides.
- Fight against criminal organizations
During his visit, the Attorney General Barbosa held a meeting with the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero, who highlighted the joint work between the two entities and that allows to dismantle criminal structures that affect the region.
The Attorney General, in the company of the local mayor, pointed out: “Yesterday we arrested alias Paraco belonging to the criminal organization known as La Sierra. The important thing about this arrest is that eight days ago we also arrested the other leader alias Soldo. This means that these criminals are leading the structures only during eight days since the National Police, the Office of the Attorney General, the joint work with the local authorities, with the mayor and his work team are obtaining results”.
In February, five criminal structures received a hard blow, and 43 people were arrested for crimes such as: criminal conspiracy, robbery through computer systems, drug trafficking, aggravated robbery.
The organizations are:
-Los Venecos: Four foreign men who were allegedly involved in theft through computer systems were arrested. More than 100 events throughout the country were investigated.
-Los Tinacos: Eight people, who were allegedly involved in car theft (motorcycles) in Medellín and Valle de Aburrá, were arrested.
-El Mesa: The arrests of eight people allegedly responsible for perpetrating selective murders, mainly in the municipality of Bello (Antioquia), were conducted
-La Fe – Las Brisas: Eight people who apparently trafficked drugs in school settings in the northwestern part of Medellín were arrested.
-Las Villas: 15 of the alleged members were arrested. This criminal group, made up mostly of women, was involved in thefts in chain stores under the modality known as “Hormiga” ( petty thefts in stores) in Medellín and urban areas.
- ‘Argenta’: seizure of assets belonging to criminal gang La Terraza
The Attorney General also highlighted the seizure of assets process that was carried out by the Sectional Office in Medellín on properties belonging to the organized criminal group La Terraza that was involved in drug trafficking in the main city of Antioquia.
“We seized 10 billion pesos from the organization La Terraza, within the framework of the so-called Argenta strategy of the Attorney General’s Office. In other words, we are taking away their sources of financing and we are impacting the criminal economies that affect the city of Medellín. We are not going to stop the coordination that the Prosecutor’s Office has with all the authorities. It is fundamental, but at the same time we need active citizens who denounce these criminals”, stated the Attorney General Barbosa.
- 100% clarification of femicide cases
Finally, the visit showed a positive balance in the clarification of femicides perpetrated in the city of Medellín. Between January 4 and February 5, 2021, three cases of feminicide took place in this city. The victims were between 19 and 51 years old. In these three processes, the Prosecutor’s Office arrested and brought the alleged aggressors before justice.
It was established that the acts were perpetrated by a son, as well as by the respective victims’ partners. One case took place in Manrique sector, another one was perpetrated in the San Cristóbal area, and the last one in La Candelaria, downtown Medellín.
