In its periodic assessment on the implementation of the Final Agreement for the termination of the armed conflict, signed between the National Government and the FARC – EP, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) highlighted the results of the Office of the Attorney General in clarifying crimes against human rights defenders and the prosecution of those people responsible.
“The IACHR is aware of the progress of the Special Investigation Unit of the Office of the Attorney General and the National Police. In this regard, the State reported that the Office of the Attorney General achieved a 56% of clarification of murders against human rights defenders”, highlighted the report that included data obtained up to July of this year.
Today, the average of clarification is of 57% thanks to the actions established by the Office of the Attorney General within the framework of the “Human Rights Defenders” strategy and the territorial approach defined by the Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado, in which prosecutors were assigned to the most affected areas in order to have a real perspective on the circumstances of manner, time, and place.
The Office of the Attorney General has obtained relevant judicial results in 224 of the 393 criminal acts reported to date, since the signing of the Final Agreement.
The Office of the Attorney General makes this information public for reasons of general interest.
