The coordination and accompaniment of the Special Unit on Investigations (UEI), and the creation of specialized teams of prosecutors, analysts and investigators of the CTI and Sijin (National Police) allowed the Office of the Attorney General to obtain conclusive evidence to clarify four criminal actions committed against people in the process of reincorporation.

Sentences for aggression in Tolima

Thanks to the evidence presented by the Office of the Attorney general, two people were sentenced as responsible for the armed attack committed against the reinserted former combatant José Andrade Betancourth Leal, which took place on August 6, 2019, in Rioblanco (Tolima).

In a first judicial decision, a judge of the Special Circuit of Chaparral (Tolima) sentenced Fernando Betancourt Correa to 8 years and 10 months in prison after he accepted a plea bargain and pleaded guilty to the charges as the perpetrator of the criminal action. The defendant was charged with aggravated murder with attempt and manufacturing, trafficking, and possessing firearms.

In another hearing related to the same events, Geiner José Mejías Valladares was sentenced for the offenses of aggravated murder with attempt and manufacturing trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition. This Venezuelan citizen must serve 109 months (9 years and 1 month) in prison, as the material co-author of the attack. 

Judgment rendered in Cauca

The Second Criminal Court of the Special Circuit of Popayán (Cauca) sentenced Gustavo Adolfo Pecupawue Quiguapumbo, a member of the residual group ‘Dagoberto Ramos’, to 7 years and 2 months in prison, for aggravated criminal conspiracy to commit murder.

This is the sixth sentence related to the crime committed against the reinserted former combatant  Mauricio Castañeda Restrepo which took place on October 15, 2018, in Corinto (Cauca).
