In the framework of the riots that took place in La Modelo prison in Bogotá last Saturday, March 21st, the Office of the Attorney General is evaluating several hypotheses in order to bring before justice those who planned these disturbances and tried to escape. As a result of this attempt 23 inmates were killed and 83 were injured.
Concerning the 23 inmates who died, the Office of the Attorney General appointed a prosecutor specialized in human rights to determine responsibility for these events. His work has been guided by the Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado and the Deputy Attorney, Martha Mancera.
Regarding the autopsies and the legal identification of the 23 corpses, the National Institute of Legal Medicine has implemented special protocols for these cases. These protocols are used by specialized doctors, radiologists, fingerprint analysts, photographers, researchers and anthropologists.
