The Office of the Attorney General prosecuted two men and one woman in Pereira (Risaralda) for being allegedly responsible for transporting 455.7 kilograms of marijuana and 144 grams of cocaine while traveling on roads in the department.
These incidents occurred independently of each other, at kilometer 86 of Andalucía road, in an area known as peaje de Cerritos II in Pereira. The three individuals were charged with trafficking, manufacturing, or possession of narcotics.
On February 15, Cristian Andrés Zapata Chará was driving a pickup truck with alleged false license plates. Authorities who stopped the vehicle for inspection found 395 kilograms of marijuana inside. The driver was also charged with receiving stolen goods and trademark counterfeiting, both aggravated offenses.
Another defendant is Diana Carolina Torres Muñoz, who on February 14, was traveling by bus along Cali–Medellín route. Her luggage allegedly contained 34.5 kilograms of marijuana and 144.3 grams of cocaine.
The same day, Silvio Escue Vizconda allegedly took a public bus along Popayán–Pereira route. It is believed that, during an inspection, officers of the National Police found 26.2 kilograms of marijuana inside his bags.
All three individuals were sent to prison.
