At the request of the Attorney General’s Office, a judge imposed a prison sentence against four alleged members of a criminal organization involved in shopping mall robberies and medical service centers. The Prosecutor’s Office found that the alleged members of the illegal network seized valuable objects without the victims realizing it.
The people who are involved are:Andrés Guillermo Novoa Reyes, Patricia García Bernal, María Paola González Ramírez and Gustavo Ernesto Medina Castañeda; who were arrested by the National Police in Bogotá and the municipality of Itagüí (Antioquia). The defendants pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit a crime and qualified theft, both aggravated conducts
These people would be linked to five criminal events that occurred between October 7, 2023, and October 23, 2024. They would be responsible for robbing objects exceeding 88 million COP worth that they took from commercial premises and health centers in the so-called comunas 12 and 14 of Medellín.
According to the investigation, carried out by a prosecutor appointed to Estructura de Apoyo, the alleged robbers entered the premises pretending to be clients or patients. They covered the areas according to roles that were previously established, and after identifying the valuables and distracting the security personnel and employees, they stole them.
One of the facts took place on October 7, 2023, in the south area of Valle de Aburrá, where the alleged criminals asked the workers about their opening hours, took photographs of the shop window, and left. At noon, they returned while the premises were closed and broke into. There, they seized cell phones, computers and technological items valued at more than 46 million COP.
The Prosecutor’s Office is investigating whether the defendants committed similar acts in Bogotá, Cali and Pereira.
