The Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa, met with his counterpart from the United States, Merrick B. Garland. The cooperation of the Colombian Attorney General´s Office with the United States Department of Justice has been fundamental in the fight against drug trafficking and criminal finances.

Also, participating in the meeting were Kenneth Polite, Assistant Attorney General, and Anne Milgram, DEA Administrator. The Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa, presented his strategy in the fight against criminal finances.

Concerning criminal finances, from 2020 to April 2022, and within the framework of the so-called Argenta Strategy, the Prosecutor’s Office has prosecuted 605 people who were alleged members of 520 criminal structures associated with money laundering, smuggling, among others.

Likewise, the Attorney General Barbosa explained the strategy that is implemented in the region against human smuggling, which includes criminal modalities such as territorial control and routes, through companies, and through the falsification of documents.

The Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa, ratified his commitment to work and cooperate with the United States Attorney General’s Office in its fight against organized crime until 2024.
