The evidence provided by a prosecutor appointed to the so-called Unidad de Vida of the Sectional Office in Bolívar allowed a judge to sentence Juan Carlos Peñate Escobar to 37 years and 5 months in prison, responsible for the crimes of homicide and manufacture, trafficking or possession of a firearm, both aggravated.
The Office of the Attorney General demonstrated that the 29-year-old convicted man shot a person from a motorcycle, when the latter was moving through El Pozón neighborhood in Cartagena on March 14, 2021.
Investigative work showed that the crime occurred due to previous differences with the 25-year-old victim.
Peñate Escobar was arrested by the National Police shortly after the crime was committed. The court ordered a secondary sentence, and he was disbarred from the practice of public functions for 20 years.
