Within the framework of riots and alteration of public order in Cali (Valle del Cauca) that have taken place since last April 28, the Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado, arrived in that city with the Deputy Attorney General Martha Mancera and the Delegate director on Public Safety, Luisa Obando Guerrero, in order to do a follow-up of actions aimed at addressing the situation within the powers of the institution.
During his visit, the Attorney General Barbosa and his team, and the Sectional Director, Jhon Fredy Encinales, visited the affected areas, as well as the places where crimes took place during the protests. “We came with our investigative teams from Bogotá and Cali to create a symbiosis to produce prompt results to the country (…) we want to tell the people in Cali that the Attorney General’s Office is working since day one, “said the head of the Office of the Attorney General.
Within the investigative strategy to clarify the violent events in the main city of Valle del Cauca and in the department, the Prosecutor’s Office managed to prosecute 4 people allegedly involved in vandalism:
- People arrested for theft of a ATM in sector La Luna in Cali
Upon accepting the arguments of a sectional prosecutor, the Third Criminal Court in Cali imposed a prison sentence against Eduar Alonso Grajales Rendón, Luis Eduardo Cabezas Castillo and Jeffer Alexis Quiñónez Riascos, for their alleged responsibility in the crimes of aggravated theft with multiple concurrent crimes of terrorism.
The three men were arrested in flagrante delicto on May 4th by officers of the Metropolitan Police in Cali (Mecal), when they apparently had in their possession a safe from an ATM that was vandalized and destroyed in the sector called La Luna.
At the end of the hearings, the people investigated did not plead guilty to the charges.
- Damage to a gas station in Palmira
In the city of Palmira, a measure was imposed against Juan Guillermo Cárdenas, as allegedly responsible for the crimes of terrorism, qualified theft, and damage to someone else’s property.
This person would be implicated in vandalism which occurred on May 5th, when a gas station was attacked.
“For the Office of the Attorney General, the human rights of Colombian citizens are very important and we will search those people responsible for the acts that have been committed against property and people, as part of our mission of delivering justice to all the inhabitants of the country”, concluded the Attorney General Francisco Barbosa.
