Among those convicted, there is a member of the organized armed group Los Pelusos and the head of hitmen of the criminal organization Clan del Golfo in the western area of Antioquia.
As a result of the investigation and prosecution strategy developed in accordance with the guidelines established by the Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado, on cases in which former Farc members in process of reincorporation and family members are affected, the Special Investigation Unit (Unidad Especial de Investigación UEI) obtained guilty verdicts against those responsible for three crimes perpetrated in isolated events, as follows:
- Crime of the social leader in Tibú (Norte de Santander)
Thanks to the conclusive evidence collected by the Office of the Attorney General, the 4th Court of the Special Circuit Court of Cúcuta (Norte de Santander) sentenced Yalcid Durán Claro, a member of the so-called Libardo Mora Toro front of the organized armed group GAO Los Pelusos, to 19 years in prison for aggravated criminal conspiracy, aggravated homicide, attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
The decision arose from the investigation into the events that took place on November 8, 2019 in the rural area of Miramontes in the municipality of Tibú (Norte de Santander) in which the UN human rights defender, Luis Alcides Tarazona Salamanca, who served as secretary of the Cooperation of tradicional miners, coordinator of the Ascamcat Committee and supervisor of the Community Action Board (JAC) of the aforementioned rural settlement was murdered. That day, his partner was also injured.
- Murder of a woman in process of reincorporation in Bogotá
A prosecutor of the Special Investigation Unit proved the responsibility of Jhonatan Esneider Castelblanco Velasco in the murder of Astrid Conde Gutiérrez, a former Farc member in process of reincorporation perpetrated on March 5th in Bogotá.
For these facts, the Fourth Criminal Court of the Bogotá sentenced him to 30 years in prison for aggravated homicide.
- A relative of a person in process of reincorporation who was murdered in Antioquia
The investigative work of the Office of the Attorney General allowed to demonstrate that Wilmar Darío Velázquez Bedoya, alias el Loco, head of hitmen of the criminal organization Clan del Golfo, western zone, was the material author of the murder of Dairo Arturo Betancurth Yepes, a relative of a person in process of reincorporation, that occurred in the rural settlement El Guachaquero in the municipality of Ituango (Antioquia), on February 8, 2018.
The Court of mixed jurisdiction* in Ituango sentenced him to 8 years and 10 months in prison, without any benefit, for being responsible for the crimes of simple homicide with the illegal possession of weapons for the private use of the Armed Forces.
It should be noted that this person was already convicted for aggravated criminal conspiracy.
Decisions were pronounced on first instance and they may be challenged by legal remedies.
