Gustavo Adolfo Gaitán was sentenced to 6 years in prison for the crime of manufacturing, trafficking and possession of weapons, ammunition for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces or explosives in Puerto Asís (Putumayo).
A specialized prosecutor assigned to the Sectional Office in Putumayo managed to demonstrate the responsibility of the professional soldier, in facts that occurred on January 30, 2022, when Gaitán was arrested in flagrante delicto in a home search carried out by National Army.
The suspects who were traveling on a motorcycle were intercepted by authorities. They found the soldier in possession of 311 cartridges 5.57 mm caliber and was immediately arrested.
The ammunition which was for private use and that was found in soldier´s possession without a permit, was found in a bag between his legs and was allegedly picked up minutes before near the municipal hospital, which was camouflaged in the root of a tree. After a technical expertise, it was established that it was fit to be used.
The man was granted house arrest. The sentence was final.
