At the request of the Attorney General’s Office, a judge imposed a prison sentence against Diego Armando Franco Aguirre, accused of murdering a man whom he tried to rob in El Espinal (Tolima).  

A prosecutor appointed to the Life Unit (Unidad de Vida in Spanish) of the branch office in Tolima (Seccional Tolima) charged him with homicide and aggravated robbery, both aggravated offenses, as well as the use of minors in the commission of crimes. The defendant did not plead guilty to the charges. 

According to the investigation, on June 30, 2024, in Caballero and Góngora neighborhood of El Espinal, Franco Aguirre and a male teenager allegedly surprised the victim from behind in an attempt to rob him. The man tried to fought back and was stabbed on the chest. 

The alleged robbers took more than 1,000,000 COP and fled the scene, where the victim died minutes later.
