The Attorney General’s Office prosecuted Mario Alexander López Mesías as the alleged perpetrator of transporting 53 kilos of marijuana in a private vehicle while driving through the municipality of Zarzal (Valle del Cauca) on August 15. 

According to the investigation, the defendant attempted to flee the scene to evade a National Police checkpoint.  Authorities found 107 packages of marijuana in the vehicle when he was intercepted, therefore, he was arrested in flagrante. 

A prosecutor from the branch office in Valle del Cauca charged the defendant with trafficking, manufacturing, or possession of narcotics. He did not plead guilty to the charges. 

A judge approved the Prosecutor’s Office’s request and ordered a prison sentence against the defendant.
