The Attorney General’s Office brought 32-year-old Brayan Eduardo Garcés Peláez before a judge for being allegedly involved in the disappearance and subsequent murder of a businessman in Cali (Valle del Cauca).
A prosecutor appointed to the branch office in Cali charged Garcés Peláez with forced disappearance and murder, both aggravated offenses.
The defendant did not plead guilty to the charges, and the judge sentenced him to prison.
According to the investigation, the victim’s family members stayed in contact with him until April 6th, when he was planning to hand over some items related to his work as an event organizer.
After investigative activities, a judicial proceeding was held on April 11 in the rural area La Estera in Cali, in which members of the Technical Investigative Corps (CTI), the National Police, and the National Army found the victim’s vehicle in the rear area of a house.
Then, a burned corpse was found a few meters from an abandoned property, amidst some trunks. The National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences determined that it was the businessman who was reported missing.
In the presence of authorities, Garcés Peláez fled and was arrested in flagrante delicto. The man was in possession of some items that would belong to the victim.
