The Attorney General’s Office prosecuted René Martínez Julio and Dagoberto García Pereira, alleged members of the ‘Clan del Golfo’ for illegal possession of weapons in the rural area of ​​San Onofre (Sucre).

According to the investigation, the defendants were traveling on the road that leads from Plan Parejo to Las Brisas, and they allegedly shot officers of the Public Force who were in the area.

In the confrontation, the two suspects were arrested. A 9 mm firearm and 5.56 caliber cartridges for rifles, magazines and a fragmentation grenade were seized.

A prosecutor from the so-called Unidad de Reacción Inmediata URI (Immediate Reaction Unit) charged them with manufacture, trafficking or possession of weapons for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces. They did not plead guilty to the charges.

A judge approved the request made by the Attorney General’s Office and imposed a prison sentence.
