Thanks to a joint work coordinated by the Office of the Attorney General through the Special group  against  animal  abuse  (Grupo  Especial  contra  el  Maltrato  Animal GELMA in Spanish ), two teams of specialists concluded the legal veterinary examination of lion ‘Jupiter’ corpse and concluded that the lion died as a result of a multi-system failure caused by a heart disease, a chronic kidney disease, and a multicenter cancer with a chronic hepatic damage.

Besides members of the judicial police of the Technical  Investigative Corps  (Cuerpo  Técnico  de  investigación  CTI in Spanish), other teams led by the veterinary who looked after  ‘Jupiter’ while he was alive and a pathologist veterinary participated in the examination. They were also supported by public and private forensic laboratories of academic institutions.

The scientific conclusion about the natural death of ‘Jupiter’ will be part of the ongoing judicial process. Likewise, the Administrative Department of Environmental Management (Departamento Administrativo de Gestión del Medio Ambiente de Cali (DAGMA) in Spanish) was informed about the situation so that, as the competent environmental authority, it can stipulate the appropriate measures, according to regulations, about the final disposition of the corpse.

The Office of the Attorney General makes this information public for reasons of general interest.
