In hearings (Audiencias Concentradas)1 before a judge in Bogotá, the Office of the Attorney General submitted evidence on the alleged mass scam that was allegedly promoted by the tourism company Volare Travels Colombia.
The company launched the “dos por uno Volare” 2 for the purpose of attracting new clients with tourist plans to visit the Caribbean and solving its own economic difficulties. The evidence shows that people paid in advance the 30% of the value of the package which included air tickets, ground transportation and accommodations. Subsequently, they paid the total value in installments of 6, 12 and 18 months.
Some days before the trip, some buyers contacted the airlines and hotels to reconfirm reservations, and then, they realized that these did not exist and that they actually had false documents. In other cases, tourists traveled to destinations such as Cancun, Punta Cana, Margarita Island and Havana on their own, and there, they discovered this fraud.
