The Office of the Attorney General continues in its fight to protect children and teenagers’ rights. In this regard, in recent hours, it carried out a joint operation called ‘Abeona’ with SIJIN-DIPRO of the National Police which allowed to dismantle an illegal group which engaged in the sexual exploitation of minors.

The illegal organization known as ‘La Mona’ was composed of two Venezuelan and eight Colombian citizens who sexually exploited minors between the ages of 14 and 17 of both nationalities.

The investigations allowed to identify the modus operandi of criminals who recruited children by deception and took advantage of the victims and their families’ low socioeconomic status. The offenders offered them money, food and accommodation in the municipalities of Riohacha, Maicao, Fonseca and San Juan de Cesar, La Guajira, in exchange for ‘sex trade’.
