A month before the crime, the man allegedly killed the woman’s pet to intimidate her.
The evidence presented by the Attorney General’s Office allowed a judge to sentence Nando Francisco Ramos Payares to 45 years and 10 months in prison for the death of his 19-year-old sentimental partner, which took place in the rural area of El Bagre (Antioquia).
The facts under investigation occurred in a house located at Medios de Maniceri rural area in Bajo Cauca, Antioquia, on February 19, 2023, when the defendant shot his former sentimental partner in front of her mother and stepfather. The victim died three weeks later in Montería (Córdoba), where she was transferred due to the severity of her injuries.
The evidence obtained during the investigation determined that, prior to the crime, the woman had been the victim of a cycle of physical, verbal, and psychological violence by the now convicted man. In December 2022, for example, when she was pregnant, the man kicked her several times and threw her to the ground.
The Prosecutor’s Office also established that, on January 9 of the same year, in front of several people, the defendant shot and killed Lulú, the woman’s pet, and threatened to do the same to her, which in fact occurred.
Ramos Payares was convicted of aggravated femicide and illegally manufacturing, trafficking, or possessing self-defense firearms, accessories, parts, or ammunition.
This is a decision of first instance and an appeal can be lodged.
