At the request of the Attorney General’s Office, a judge ordered a prison sentence for Ovier Luis Care Flórez, the alleged leader of Juan de Dios Úsuga substructure of the ‘Clan del Golfo’ who allegedly participated in an attack on six members of SIJIN in the Department of Córdoba on June 6.
Four men traveling on two motorcycles allegedly shot the officers in a rural area of the municipality of San Carlos (Córdoba), where they had traveled to conduct various investigations. The attack led to an armed confrontation in which Care Flórez was wounded and arrested at the scene. The police officers also seized a revolver with six cartridges and two motorcycles.
The evidence indicates that this individual was responsible for coordinating attacks against law enforcement and having a violent dispute with other criminal organizations for control of illicit profits in the region.
Therefore, a prosecutor appointed to the Directorate specialized in the fight against Criminal Organizations charged him with attempted aggravated homicide, aggravated conspiracy to commit a crime, and manufacturing, trafficking, or possessing firearms, accessories, parts, or ammunition.
The defendant did not plead guilty to the charges.
