The money was found at a courier company in Ibagué (Tolima). It was packaged as a parcel and was destined for Querétaro, Mexico.

Investigations led by the Attorney General’s Office against criminal networks involved in counterfeiting national and foreign currency prevented the shipment of more than one million dollars, which were allegedly produced in an illegal printing house.

The information obtained indicated that a package containing counterfeit money was going to be sent as a parcel from a courier company in Ibagué (Tolima) to Mexico. National Police officers went to the commercial establishment and located a cardboard box containing 10,291 banknotes (100 dollar denomination), distributed and packed in 100 wads.

During the inspection, it was determined that the package would stop at a cargo distribution center in the western area of Bogotá and then it would be shipped by air to Querétaro, Mexico. The dollars were seized and taken to the laboratory of Dijin-National Police  (Dijin Office of the National Police), where specialized experts determined these were replicas with serial numbers, security marks, and other characteristics that gave them the appearance of being legitimate.

A prosecutor appointed to the Counterfeit Currency Group of the Delegate Office against Organized Crime legalized the discovery before a judge. The investigation will move forward in order to identify and bring to justice those responsible for the large-scale counterfeiting of dollars and their shipment to international destinations.
