The evidence presented by the Attorney General’s Office allowed a judge to impose a prison sentence against Sergio David Avendaño Echeverri, alias Sopotropo, as the alleged person responsible for participating in an armed attack that took place in the west area of Medellín in which a woman died, and 5 people were injured.

A prosecutor appointed to the so-called Unidad de Vida  (Life Unit) of the branch office in Medellín (Seccional Medellín) charged him with homicide, attempted homicide; and manufacturing, trafficking, possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition; all aggravated.

The facts under investigation took place on January 1st, outside a house located at Doce de Octubre neighborhood when several men, who were riding motorcycles, allegedly shot at a group of people who were spending time there. In the violent action, a 50-year-old woman died, and a female minor and 4 adults were injured.

According to the investigation, the attack would be related to disputes between illegal groups that commit crimes in the area.

Avendaño Echeverri was arrested in Doce de Octubre neighborhood by the Sijín of the National Police. During the preliminary hearings, he did not plead guilty to the charges brought by the Attorney General’s Office.
