The vessel that was in the final stage of construction was apparently going to be transported to the Pacific coast to be loaded with narcotics.

The Attorney General’s Office prosecuted two men who were allegedly involved in the storage of a semi-submarine that was under construction in two houses in Santander de Quilichao (Cauca).

The people involved are Derwin Jesús Méndez and Elías Gerardo Arape, who were charged with using, building, selling or possessing submarines or semi-submarines.

These men were arrested by police officers during a home search operation in two homes located at Asomasol neighborhood.

According to the investigation, during the judicial procedure a metal structure was found, with two rectangular bases, with finished ends and four square-shaped doors for entry, which, due to its characteristics, resembled a semi-submarine.

During the operation, cash in Colombian pesos and dollars was found.

The vessel, which was in its final stage of building, was apparently going to be transported to the Colombian Pacific, where it would be loaded with narcotics destined for the coasts of Mexico.

A judge imposed home detention. The Prosecutor’s Office appealed the decision.
