Fabián Alonso Jaramillo Mazo, alias Catalino, alleged leader of the so-called Clan del Golfo structure that commits crimes in the north area of Antioquia, was sent to prison. He is allegedly responsible for homicide and illegal possession of firearms for self-defense, both aggravated.
‘Catalino’ allegedly participated in the murder of a grower of potatoes that took place in La Teresita area of the municipality of Yarumal (Antioquia), on May 7th. According to information, the victim was murdered for refusing to pay an extortion to the illegal armed group.
A prosecutor appointed to the so-called Estructura de Apoyo (EDA) (Support Office) of the Sectional Office in Antioquia found that Jaramillo Mazo ordered the death of other four people who were murdered in that same town between December 19, 2023 and March 31 of this year. He will be charged due to these facts in the coming days.
He was also accused of committing selective homicides and ordering extortion of merchants and residents of the area; in addition to dominating territories in Yarumal, Santa Rosa de Osos and Valdivia (Antioquia) where they carried out the petty drug dealing.
Jaramillo Mazo was arrested by the National Police in Yarumal. During the operation, the authorities seized a 9-millimeter caliber pistol and 43 cartridges.
The defendant did not plead guilty to the charges.
