A judge imposed a preventive detention measure against Andrés Rentería Martínez, allegedly involved in the kidnapping of two young people in October 2023.

On that day, the victims were traveling on a motorcycle through the Tutunendo garbage dump, located on the road that leads from Quibdó to Carmen de Atrato (Chocó). There, the two men were allegedly intercepted and forced to get out of the vehicle and taken to a wooded area.

At the scene, the victims were allegedly intimidated with firearms, tied up, gagged and beaten. They also assured the victims that they would be murdered if they did not confess to which criminal organization they belonged to.

Several hours later, one of the victims was released, the other one was held prisoner while her family paid 900,000 pesos in exchange for her freedom. The alleged kidnappers fled the scene and took the citizens’ belongings, valued at 1 million COP.

CTI arrested Rentería Martínez who was part of the criminal organization Los Mexicanos.

A prosecutor of the Sectional Office in Chocó charged him with kidnapping for ransom and qualified and aggravated robbery. He did not plead guilty to the charges.
