The defendants allegedly committed thefts in La Favorita neighborhood, in La Caracas, in La Mariposa and in transmilenio bus stations and buses.
After assessing the evidence presented by the Office of the Attorney General, a judge imposed prison sentence on 3 alleged members of the criminal structure called “Los Chamos” allegedly involved in thefts downtown Bogotá city.
According to the investigation led by the Prosecutor’s Office with the support of the Police, the defendants were involved in pickpocketing activities within the public transportation system Transmilenio, downtown area of the city and also in the sector known as La Mariposa.
These citizens in an organized way would have managed to steal several cell phones, valuable items that they took from passengers in the buses. Also, they attacked their victims in the streets, with bladed weapons and subdued them until they took away all their belongings. In addition, they took advantage of the crowds downtown the city to commit pickpocketing.
The prosecution charged the three defendants with conspiracy to commit a crime and aggravated robbery. They did not plead guilty.
