They are also considered responsible for the attack against two policemen in Turbo.
In Antioquia, the Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado accompanied by the Sectional director of that department, Liliana Castañeda, announced that in a joint action by the Attorney General´s Office, the National Police, and Gaula- Army (Brigada XVII de la Séptima División del Ejército Nacional) 10 alleged members of the ‘Clan del Golfo’ were arrested.
“Among those arrested is Jhon Jairo Martínez Polo, alias El Soldado, ringleader of this structure, his head of hitmen, alias Chema. They are considered responsible for the death of 13 people, 10 in 2021 and 3 in 2020” stated the Attorney General. They are also investigated for two cases of attempted homicide.
As a result of the home searches, a 9mm caliber Sig Sauer pistol belonging to the National Police; a 38 caliber revolver, a grenade, a ‘traumatic’ gun, and two motorcycles that were allegedly used by hitmen were seized.
According to the investigations, it was established that this structure operates in Currulao and Nueva Colonia de Turbo, and the municipalities of San Pedro de Urabá and Valencia (Córdoba).
For these facts, the Attorney General´s Office charged 10 people with aggravated homicide, attempted aggravated homicide; conspiracy to commit an aggravated crime, manufacture, trafficking, or possession of firearms; and manufacture, trafficking, and possession of arms, ammunition for restricted use, for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces. The judge imposed a prison sentence against them.
With this result, the Office of the Attorney General achieved 125 arrests.
The leader of different control points in the zone, the leader of hitmen and the chief of the military structure, among others, were also brought before justice.
