• The operations made it possible to impact 6 criminal structures with the arrest and prosecution of 56 people identified as alleged members.
  • In that region, the Office of the Attorney General significantly increased the rates of clarification of crimes such as domestic violence, sexual violence, and other behaviors against women, girls, boys and adolescents.

The Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado, in development of the institutional strategy ‘En La Calle y En Los Territorios’ (near people and territories), arrived in Barrancabermeja (Santander) to monitor the investigative actions carried out by the institution to counteract the phenomena that affect both public safety and coexistence, as well as public health.

In his visit to the Sectional Office of Magdalena Medio, in the company of Deputy Attorney Martha Mancera and the Delegate on Public Safety, Luisa Obando Guerrero; the Attorney General held a meeting with the director and announced one of the results obtained in recent weeks in that region, thanks to the guiding principles of itinerancy, coordination, and concentration of investigative activities.

In addition, he referred to the fight against crime in the department of Norte de Santander:

  • A hard blow against the criminal group Los de la 80 in Magdalena Medio

At the request of the Office of the Attorney General, the 1st municipal judge of mixed jurisdiction* with supervisory functions in Caracolí (Antioquia) imposed a prison sentence against 16 alleged members of the criminal group ‘Los de la 80’.

The people under investigation were arrested by Sijín in home searches carried out in the neighborhoods Oasis, Uribe and Puerto Colombia of the municipality of Puerto Berrío (Antioquia).

According to their alleged responsibility, the institution charged them with conspiracy to commit a crime with aggravated murder purposes; trafficking, manufacture or possession of drugs; and manufacture, trafficking, possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition; and escape of prisoners.

The authorities seized 4 short and long-range firearms of different caliber; 5 cell phones, more than two kilos of narcotic substances, such as marijuana and cocaine; and two USB.

  • Fight against organized crime in Norte de Santander

Thanks to the joint work between the Office of the Attorney General in Norte de Santander, through the Technical Investigative Corps (Cuerpo Técnico de Investigación CTI), and the National Police, four criminal structures that were involved in thefts and micro-trafficking in the department were impacted.

The criminal groups are:

“Los Chamos”: this gang stole motorcycles and trucks in the municipalities of Ocaña (Norte de Santander) and Río de Oro (Cesar). Thirteen of its alleged members were charged and prison sentences were issued against them for aggravated murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, robbery, and trafficking, manufacture, possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition.

‘Los Apple’: After an investigation carried out for 6 months, 6 of its alleged members were arrested on June 16  for the alleged commission of trafficking, manufacture or possession of drugs. These people allegedly committed crimes in the so-called Comuna 9 and 10 in the city of Cúcuta (Norte de Santander).

‘Los Domiciliarios’: The Office of the Attorney General charged 11 people for the offenses of murder, conspiracy to commit a crime; trafficking, manufacture or possession of drugs; manufacture, trafficking, illegal possession of firearms for personal use; and robbery. All of them were deprived of their liberty.

The people under investigation were arrested in search warrants carried out in Torcoroma, María Paz, Tasajero and Los Motilones neighborhoods. ‘Los Domiciliarios’ would be responsible for the sale of drugs in the so-called Comunas  4, 5 and 7 in ​​Cúcuta, in which they made home deliveries.

‘Los Motilones’: The investigations coordinated by the Office of the Attorney General and Sijín-National Police, made it possible to demonstrate the existence of this group through testimonies, interviews, and wiretappings. Five of its alleged members were arrested and custodial measures were issued against them.

The criminal network was involved in the commission of thefts and burglary, as well as drug trafficking and extortion activities in the metropolitan area of ​​Cúcuta.

‘Los Primos’: A Sectional Prosecutor’s Office in Cúcuta, in coordination with the National Police, prosecuted five alleged members of this structure, who were arrested in search warrant procedures carried out in buildings located in the municipalities of Ocaña (Norte de Santander) and Aguachica (Cesar).

The defendants would face charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and trafficking, manufacture or possession of drugs.

  • Increase in the rate of clarification of sexual and domestic violence cases.

The Attorney General Barbosa also highlighted the progress made by the Sectional Office of Magdalena Medio in the fight against crimes that affect women, girls, boys and adolescents, and revealed an increase in the clarification of these behaviors.

“We have achieved a clarification of domestic violence cases of 41.53% and last year we were in 4%. Regarding sexual violence cases, we achieved a clarification of 43.75% and last year we did not reach the 10%. Concerning crimes against children and adolescents which are considered under the directive of the Attorney General’s Office issued in Carlosama Cuaspud (Nariño), we achieved a clarification rate of 42.08% and before we were at 8.55% ”.
