The victims were members of the human rights movement Movimiento Ríos Vivos in Antioquia. 

The Strategic Direction defined by the Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado, has focused on cases of attacks and damages to social leaders and the dismantling of criminal structures that affect public safety in the territories.  

In this regard, the Special Investigation Unit achieved the prosecution of Julio Andrés Rivera Jiménez, alias Panqueque or Campanita, an alleged member of the clan denominated as Clan del Golfo that operates in the north area of the Department of Antioquia. 

The Third Municipal Court with supervisory functions* in Antioquia approved the accusation made by the Office of the Attorney General against Rivera Jiménez for the offenses of aggravated murder, aggravated conspiracy to commit a crime, and manufacture, possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition. 

The prosecution of alias Panqueque is conducted in the framework of the investigation aimed at solving the killings of human rights defenders Hugo Albeiro George Pérez and Dimar Egidio Zapata George, members of the organization Ríos Vivos, which took place on May 2, 2018 in rura area of Puerto Valdivia, in the municipality of Valdivia (Antioquia).

Moreover, in this case, a minor was arrested and an arrest warrant was issued against the alleged perpetrator of the crime, identified as Mario Alberto Julio, alias Pepe, alleged leader of the criminal organization Clan del Golfo

* In this case this court also has an additional function which is called in Spanish “ambulante” which means a judge/court who travels or moves throughout places/cities when needed.
