Within the framework of the strengthening policy on public safety in times of Covid-19, the Branch Office on Bogotá and Sijin – National Police arrested in the last hours five alleged members of the criminal structure Los Cronos who are accused of having a connection with a theft committed in a jewelry store in the shopping center Gran estación in Bogotá, on June 23.

According to the evidence collected in the course of the investigation, the arrested people allegedly participated in the robbery of the commercial establishment by intimidating people with firearms and holding  the employees prisoners to rob the merchandise valued at 600 million pesos.

Thanks to the work carried out by a group of prosecutors with experience in dismantling criminal organizations appointed to the Support Unit (Unidad de Estructura de Apoyo EDA) of the Regional Branch in Bogotá,  it was possible to associate 8 criminal events in which it is believed these people have participated.

Furthermore, it was established that the gang is dedicated to shoplifting, mainly in restaurants, drugstores, and stationery shops by using the robbery method in the areas of Teusaquillo, Usaquén, Suba, Fontibón and Rafael Uribe Uribe. The latter was prioritized by the Office of the Attorney General to combat crimes that affect citizens.

The Office of the Attorney General will bring charges before a supervisory judge against the arrested people for the crimes of aggravated robbery, criminal conspiracy, and simple kidnapping.

The Delegate Director on Public Safety, Carmen Torres Malaver, stated that in compliance with this strategy against crime, this year, so far, 75 criminal organizations have been dismantled, 5 of them last week, and  337 at the national level; all related to theft, micro-trafficking, kidnapping, extortion and murder.

The Office of the Attorney General makes this information public for reasons of  general interest.
