The investigations carried out by the Office of the Attorney General were decisive to achieve four convictions against those responsible for committing attacks against human rights defenders and demobilized FARC´s members.
Affectations to the community in Uraba (Antioquia) have been clarified
In two different pronouncements, specialized judges in Quibdó (Chocó) sentenced Jhon Jairo Renteria, alias Chimu, leader of the so-called Carlos Vásquez structure of ‘Clan del Golfo’ to 24 years and 7 months in prison; and Eder Manuel Martínez de La Cruz, alias Patotas, member of the same criminal organization to 14 years in prison.
Alias Chimu was charged with aggravated murder, attempted murder, terrorism, illegal possession of firearms, aggravated criminal conspiracy, receiving (aggravated) and threats. For his part, alias Patotas was charged with aggravated murder, illegal possession of weapons, aggravated criminal conspiracy, and threats.
The evidence collected by the Special Investigation Unit (UEI) revealed the participation of the defendants in the following criminal actions:
- Murder of a person in reincorporation process, Adrián Pérez Vargas, which took place on June 23, 2018 between the area of Mutatá (Antioquia) and Riosucio (Chocó).
- Murder of Duberney Gómez Echavarría, son of land-reclaimant. The offense was known on June 1, 2017, in Mutatá (Antioquia).
- Attacks against police stations of Mutatá and Belén de Bajirá (Antioquia) on January 14, 2020.
- Threats against the leaders: Argemiro Bailarín, indigenous leader of Urabá; Guillermo Díaz Tapias, leader of the Community Council in Llano; and Emilio Enrique Cabezas, leader of the river basin Curvaradó (Chocó).
