The owner of a pharmacy who allegedly bought the stolen products was also arrested.

At the request of the Office of the Attorney General, a detention measure with home imprisonment was issued against Hugo León Sánchez Pineda and Wilson Ariel Ocampo Bermúdez for alleged criminal conspiracy (multiple concurrent crimes) and aggravated robbery and abusive access to a computer system.

According to the investigation which was carried out by a prosecutor appointed to the Support Structure (Estructura de Apoyo EDA in Spanish ), between  2017 and 2020, the defendants who worked in the supply area of the hospital foundation San Vicente de Paúl in Medellín allegedly took possession of expensive drugs amounting to 654 million pesos.

To take possession of the drugs, the defendants allegedly manipulated the entity’s computer system and made believe that medicines were required by the competent areas. The products were removed from the hospital undetected and then sold to pharmacy owners who seemed to know about their illicit origin.

Among the stolen products, there were drugs for cancer treatment and other pathologies that especially affect neonates.
