The Special Investigation Unit (La Unidad Especial de Investigación UEI) of the Office of the Attorney General focuses its efforts on clarifying any act of violence committed against social leaders or former members of armed groups who returned to civilian life, as well as of their relatives.

As a matter of fact, sentences were achieved in two different processes conducted before the Special Circuit Court of Chaparral (Tolima).

In the first decision, Jhon Eric Rincón García was sentenced to 205 months in prison (17 years) for the offense committed against the demobilized Farc member Gerardo Díaz Quintero, which took place on April 13, 2019, in Chaparral (Tolima). The defendant was charged with aggravated homicide, and manufacturing, trafficking, possession of firearms, accessories, parts, or ammunition.

In the second decision, Celimo Antonio Betancourt Correa was sentenced to  9 years in prison for the offense committed against the demobilized Farc member José Andrade Betancourth Leal which took place on August 6, 2019, in Rioblanco (Tolima). The defendant was charged with aggravated homicide with attempt, and manufacturing, trafficking, possession of firearms, accessories, parts, or ammunition.
