The European Union will make a contribution of 7 billion pesos to the Office of the Attorney General in its effort to investigate and clarify crimes against social leaders. The project will strengthen investigations that take place in areas such as Bogotá, Valle del Cauca, Putumayo, Meta, Norte de Santander, Antioquia and Caquetá.
With a contribution of 7 billion pesos, the Office of the Attorney General will launch this monday in Bogotá a project to strengthen the Special Unit on Investigations denominated ‘Fortalecimiento a la Unidad Especial de Investigación de la Fiscalía General de la Nación’.
The purpose is to support investigations which seek to dismantle criminal organizations and identify people responsible for the murders and massacres of social leaders.
This project will last 18 months and aims to strengthen capacities of the Special Unit of Investigations of the Office of the Attorney General (in spanish Unidad Especial de Investigaciones (UEI)) increasing in this way, its investigation potential on murders and threats against social leaders, former Farc combatants, communal and politic leaders and people who is directly involved in the implementation of the Peace Agreement.
