Office of the Attorney General arrested José Luis Poveda Velásquez, a driver who allegedly asked for six billion pesos ($6,000,000,000) in return for not reporting alleged irregularities in the management of the Public Transport System (SITP) .
The Criminal Investigation Team (CTI) belonging to the Office of the Attorney General arrested José Luis Poveda Velásquez with the support of Gaula (Army) in Cundinamarca. They arrived at Povedas´house which was located in Las Ferias neighborhood, in the western of Bogotá.
Officials moved closer the man while he was trying to get his vehicle into the garage and informed him about the reason of the arrest. His detention was conducted due to the commission of an extortion offense.
Poveda Velásquez (51 years old) did not followed instructions and on the contrary, he accelerated the car, ran over one of the investigators and escaped. A few blocks from the place, he was located near a Comando de Accion Inmediata CAI (Immediate Action Command in English) and he said he fled because he thought he was going to be a victim of a crime.
