The Office of the Attorney General and the National Police arrested seven people who would be part of a criminal gang engaged in jewelry thefts which would be linked to the crime committed against the judicial officer. Four of the individuals arrested would have participated in the murder that was committed last December 29 in Cali (Valle del Cauca).
After finding out the news about the murder of the prosecutor against organized crime, Alcibiades Libreros Varela, which occurred in Cali (Valle del Cauca), the Office of the Attorney General and the National Police created an interdisciplinary team to identify those people responsible and clarify the motives.
In eight days of inquiries, since last December 29, investigators verified security cameras of the sector where events took place, carried out wiretappings, interviews and morphological examinations, among other judicial police techniques and identified a criminal gang involved in the theft of jewels and valuable objects in Cali that would be linked to this murder.
Thanks to the evidence gathered, it was possible to have clear information about the alleged members of the network who would have participated in the crime, as well as the vehicles they used during the murder and the routes to escape.
With the approval of a judge (guarantee judge), the Office of the Attorney General and the National Police conducted 10 home searches in the eastern area of Cali. As a result, four people who would be directly linked to the murder of prosecutor Alcibíades Libreros Varela were arrested.
