A judge appoved the request made by the Attorney General’s Office and imposed a prison sentence against Edwin Ermilson Sánchez García and Miguel Ángel Otálvaro Moreno, for being the alleged perpetrators of aggravated homicide, attempted aggravated homicide, and manufacturing, trafficking, or posession of firearms or ammunition for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces.

The facts took place in Santa Cruz neighborhood in Antioquia on August 12, 2024, when Sánchez García allegedly shot several times, from a motorcycle driven by the other defendant, at a 55-year-old man who was walking in the area. Afterwards, he also allegedly shot another pedestrian who apparently witnessed the murder. The second victim was taken to a medical center where he survived.

During Sánchez García’s arrest which was carried out in the same area where the facts took place, National Police officers seized a 9mm pistol with nine cartridges and four magazines with different capacities and for different calibers. Therefore, he was also charged with manufacturing, trafficking, or possession of firearms or ammunition for self-defense.

None of the defendants pleaded guilty to the charges brought by a specialized prosecutor from the branch office in Medellín (Seccional Medellín).
