This is about Darwin García Pérez, who allegedly charged 170 dollars to each migrant who arrived in Acandí (Chocó).

A judge in Antioquia approved the accusation uttered by the Attorney General’s Office against Darwin García Pérez who is allegedly responsible for aggravated conspiracy to commit crimes and migrant smuggling. He did not plead guilty to the charges.

The defendant would be the owner and manager of a hostel, a liquor store and a maritime transport company, that he allegedly used to promote the smuggling of migrants arriving in Turbo and Necoclí (Antioquia), and in Capurganá and Acandí (Chocó).

A prosecutor appointed to the Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking Group of the Directorate specialized in the fight against Human Rights Violations, found that in September 2023, García Pérez arranged with members of the Efrén Martínez structure of Clan del Golfo to coordinate the transport of hundreds of citizens who irregularly arrived in national territory with the purpose of crossing the border into Panama.

According to the investigation, García Pérez apparently charged each person interested in arriving in Central America 170 dollars in exchange for giving them food and accommodation, carrying out migration procedures, transfers and guides. A percentage of these payments would be given to the members of the illegal organization.

García Pérez was arrested in a joint operation of CTI of the Office of the Attorney General, Dijin of the National Police, officers of the Seventh Brigade of the National Army and Migration authorities in Colombia, when he was boarding a boat for Acandí (Chocó)
