A prosecutor appointed to the so-called Grupo Especial para la Lucha contra el Maltrato Animal- Gelma (Special Group for the Fight against Animal Abuse) of the sectional Office in Medellín charged Manuel Antonio Berrio Acuña with illicit use of renewable natural resources, who would be involved in the illegal sale of wild birds in Copacabana (Antioquia).
In a procedure carried out in a coordinated manner by the Attorney General’s Office, the National Police, the National Army and the environmental authorities of Valle de Aburrá, 19 birds were recovered, which were in a building in La Misericordia neighborhood, in cages and in precarious conditions.
The evidence indicates that the species were going to be sold clandestinely.
The defendant did not plead guilty to the charges brought by the Office of the Attorney General, and will remain linked to the investigation.
