A judge sentenced Enrique Antonio Díaz Julio, alias El Caco or El Grande, to 37 years in prison for conspiracy to commit a crime, kidnapping, sexual assault and torture of a woman in 2003.
The convicted man, a member of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia AUC in Spanish), forcibly took the woman out of her house, that is located in the Palito neighborhood of the municipality of San Onofre (Sucre). Then, he transferred her to a farm that served as an operation center for a faction of the illegal armed group.
The woman was held in that place, where she was also subjected to inhuman treatment and was sexually assaulted. Judicial police work showed that the assaults were allegedly carried out because the victim failed to comply with an order given by this criminal organization.
According to the ruling, alias Caco must pay a fine of 16,382 monthly minimum wages for the year 2003. He was also disbarred from exercising rights and public functions for 20 years.
The judge in the case issued an arrest warrant against the convicted man in order to serve his sentence in a facility determined by the penitentiary center INPEC (Instituto Nacional Penitenciario y Carcelario in spanish).
