The Attorney General and the United States Ambassador, Philip S. Goldberg, will announce this Friday the strengthening of the fight against drug trafficking as a transnational crime.
The Office of the Attorney General led by the Attorney General Francisco Barbosa Delgado, has worked with the United States government in the fight against drug trafficking as a transnational crime.
This work is reflected in the signing of more than 100 arrest warrants with a view to extradition and despite the pandemic and the difficulties in the air transportation, more than 50 people were turned in to the United States authorities to be prosecuted. Moreover, maritime interdictions of narcotics for more than 60 tons were achieved.
As a result of multiple meetings between the Attorney General and his staff with Ambassador Philip S. Goldberg and the various agencies of the United States, this collaboration has been strengthened.
These results are added to the technical cooperation strategies during 2020 for more than 21 million dollars.
Taking into account the important advances, the Attorney General and the United States Ambassador will sign an agreement to strengthen the fight against networks involved in drug trafficking.
This agreement was reached in accordance with the strategic guidelines defined by the Prosecutor Francisco Barbosa to break the drug trafficking criminal links in our territory. On these legal instruments, lines of cooperation about extradition, drug trafficking, new technologies, money laundering and assets seizure, among others have been drawn up.
