The technical evidence of the Office of the Attorney General and other authorities allowed the prosecution of the official who could face charges for damage to the environment. 

The special prosecutor’s office against Human Rights Violations- ​​Protection of Natural Resources and the Environment central theme, brought charges against the legal representative of the Consortium Centro de Gerenciamiento de Residuos Doña Juana S.A. ESP, who took office since April 4, 2016, Mauricio Bernal Marcucci, for his alleged responsibility in environmental pollution, with circumstances of aggravation and damage to natural resources. 

The investigation revealed alleged mistakes made by the consortium in the management and disposal of waste in Doña Juana landfill, including disintegration, compaction, and covering of waste. As well as, alleged irregularities in the management of leachate and slope stability that increase the presence of vectors and bad odors.

The evidence was allegedly supported by technical visits made by the Office of the Attorney General and other entities.

The charges that were brought, are the result of the strategic direction established by the Attorney General Francisco Barbosa Delgado to investigate any case that affects the environment and endangers both people and natural resources.
