Given the force of the material evidence presented by the Office of the Attorney General, Jhon Freddy Córdoba Chaverra, alias Mosquerita (23 year old) pled guilty to the charges that were brought in a hearing. The First Criminal Court of the Circuit of Quibdó sentenced him to 17 years and 6 months in prison for the murder of communal leader Juan Mena Ortiz.

On March 18, 2018, in neighborhood ‘El Reposo’ in the main city of Chocó, the victim was spending time with a friend in a commercial establishment when alias Mosquerita arrived at the scene and shot him at his chest. The communal leader tried to escape but the aggressor continued with the attack.  Multiple wounds caused his death.

According to the investigation carried out by a prosecutor of the so-called Unidad de Vida in Quibdó  (Chocó), the attack occurred due to the fact that members of a criminal structure considered that Mena Ortiz had alliances with a criminal gang.
