Charges have been brought by the Office of the Attorney General against former Secretary of Education in Santander, Nelly Mejía, before a Guarantee Court (juez de control de garantías) in Bucaramanga (Santander) for her alleged participation in the execution of contracts without compliance of the legal requirements, undue interest in the execution of contracts and embezzlement for the profit of third parties.
The contract under investigation is number 000034030 dated august 3, 2015 amounting to 2.400 million pesos which was aimed at providing surveillance service in educative institutions of the Department. However, the Comptrollers’ Office found a cost overrun of 39% in this contract and therefore, it reported the case to the Office of the Attorney General.
Contractor José Baltazar Villamil Pérez who was arrested in Bogotá was charged with undue interest in the execution of contracts without compliance of the legal requirements and embezzlement.
